Good question. It wasn't a problem for me, but it was for them. Some people are like that, I blame TV.
Most country people in rural North Carolina are very friendly and pleasant, but you run across these fearful, suspicious types now and then. I explained that I admired the old car and just wanted to take a few pictures of it, but they were adamant about me leaving. You never know, they could be cooking crack in the woodshed.
I'm a gregarious old man with a Santa Claus beard, a big smile and a gift for gab, but sometimes that's not enough. No photograph is worth killing or being killed over. Sometimes it's best to just smile, wave and drive away.
