A vintage World War II plane crashed shortly after takeoff, erupted into flames and killed people on board Wednesday at Bradley International Airport, just outside of Hartford, Connecticut, authorities said.

"There were fatalities," State Police Commissioner James Rovella told reporters, while not specifying exactly how many were killed. "Victims are very difficult to identify, we don't want to make a mistake." . . . There were 13 people on board the Boeing B-17, two pilots, one attendant, and 10 passengers. Another person on the ground was injured when the plane slid off the runway and slammed into a building used to house the airport's deicing equipment, officials said.

Hartford Hospital received six patients from the crash, three were initially listed in critical condition, two in moderate condition and one with just minor injuries, doctors there said.

I took this trailer back for repairs. The companies shop made it road worthy but the hydrogen tank was going back to be fixed and certified. I'm glad I was nowhere near it when the brakes caught fire.

Federal crash investigators have begun sifting through the debris of a World War II-era plane that crashed at a Connecticut airport Wednesday, killing seven people and injuring at least seven others.. . . He said at least two other people on the ground were injured: a firefighter who was treated at the scene and an airport employee who is being treated at a hospital. . . . Six people were being treated at Hartford Hospital. At least three were in critical condition, according to Kenneth John Robinson, the hospital’s chief of emergency medicine. Two patients were transferred to Bridgeport Hospital, which has a specialized burn treatment unit.
