Thanks if meant for my shot above... brace yourselves, in NY we might be under home constrain for a while and I live under one of the routes for JFK's arriving aircrafts (runway 22). Part of the day I spend sitting in my porch looking at the aircrafts that are on their way to land. Camera in hand. I have a few I will post that I took withthe K 135/2.5 - today I will try my luck with my Tak 200/4.

Now, it is not everyday that I get airplanes flying by... it all depends on the winds.

Nice shot! Back in the '50s I also lived under the approach path to RY 22 but then it was IDL not JFK. I got to watch the Connies and DC-7s fly overhead. Then in '59 the first of the 707s.

Nowadays it is computer driven... the line of plane is extremely precise. good for tripod mounting. Sometimes they fly by Floral Park, sometimes by Garden City - I lie in between and sometimes is up by me.

Another one

I was riding my bike to school when a B-36 flew over. I was so mesmerized as I watched it block out the sky I ran into the back of a parked car.

These are some pictures of an interesting boat called Sea Flyer. Sea Flyer was the result of a R&D program funded by ONR. She was intended to demonstrate the utility of a "lifting body" to increase the speed and improve the fuel efficiency of a surface ship. The program was successful in its goals at the time it was conceived. I got involved in it in 2005 as a R&D engineer working for Northrop Grumman. We had a subcontract to another company to help design, install and test an active drag reduction system in the lifting body to further improve Sea Flyer's performance. In addition to performing my normal engineering duties, I took it upon myself to use my first digital camera (a Canon PowerShot G3) to document what I could of the work being done. These pictures show Sea Flyer from an unusual perspective: from below while in dry dock to install the drag reduction system. If anyone is interested in this stuff, you can look up "ONR" together with "Sea Flyer" using Google to see some more information and photos, although there is very little information on drag reduction efforts.

Three more pictures of Sea Flyer from after she was relaunched following the installation of the drag reduction system. Note that all of the system installation took place in a ship yard in Honolulu Harbor and the at-sea testing took place in the ocean south of Oahu.

the looks like an interesting design. How did the drag resistance stack up (or down).
