the looks like an interesting design. How did the drag resistance stack up (or down).
We developed a technique to inject a dilute solution (less than 500 ppm) of polyox (polyethylene oxide) into the boundary layer without disturbing it. This reduced the friction drag by over 60%. You could either go faster with the same amount of engine power or keep the same speed while reducing the needed engine power. Net result? In either case, significant cost savings! It was a fun program to work on. Especially with a few months paid to be out in Hawaii!

Has anyone followed up on it? I'm thinking maybe Cigarette racers or drug smugglers would find it useful.

Actually, the bigger the ship, the better it works. It costs too much to make it cost effective on small boats.

Sorting through old prints and negatives. For fans of classic wooden yachts, here are a few quick print scans of Olympus pulling away from the dock at Thetis Island Marina in August of 1999.

Very atmospheric. I like it!

A crop to reduce the sky emphasizing the water and putting the ships at 1/3 would make that shot worthy of the wall, Noel

Thank you, I see what your saying... the sky in this image is actually a tree covered mountain on the other side of the Loch.

Moving that boat would be a wee photoshop exercise.

Hey, Scottie: the crop comment was for NoelCM's two freighters. I should have added something to my post to indicate that.
