Interesting shot. Are the trains on the LIRR electric now?

Actually, those belong to the MTA and are part of the NYC subway system. But, to answer your question, the majority of the LIRR is, indeed, electrified. However, there are some areas of track on the east end of Long Island that aren't, yet, electrified and the trains in use there have dual diesel/electric engines that can operate over the entire system. I can remember the good(?) old days, when the LIRR still operated steam locomotives into NYC.

Theodore is on the move

I remember those days too! I liked hearing the whistles in the night.

Yeah, my father used to commute into NYC from Long Island by train. Unfortunately, I was too young to have developed an interest in photography, but used to love walking around close to the steam engines. Never, got the chance to take advantage of the clouds of steam to get some great pictures!

I was too young also but my Dad and Uncle were avid amateurs and shot lots of film of trains in the 30s.
