and the idiot drivers just keep right on trying to do 70-80 mph

I grew up on the West Coast of Canada and am very familiar with what we called Silver Thaw. Ice at exactly freezing with water on top -- you couldn't stand up on the stuff. And people still drove ...

It looks like this picture was taken in July 1963

Accident: Rivière Aux Tonneres, QC. 50°21’N 64°50’W. 23-Jul-1963. On amphibious floats, during the landing roll on apparently unsuitable surface, the nose wheels dug into sand and the aircraft nosed over. Two DoT employees on board uninjured. Substantial damage to the aircraft.

I guess my Dad is taking the picture. I am not sure if he was flying the plane or was there to inspect the accident.

We've got a tiny bit more, but we are 6º North of Billings, 666 Km or 414 miles. That's just enough to cause a bit cooler weather. Darn it.

PS: we are both very, very close to the Great Divide/Continental Divide. Sparwood is 3 mi, 5 km W of it. My maps don't show enough detail for how far you are from it.

I am about 160 air miles east of the true Divide. However there are mountain ranges closer which are a 'false' divide and often affect our weather. This is especially true with a 'Wyoming' low which circulates moist air masses eastward against the false divide and creates low ceilings and precipitation. Probably more than you wanted to know.

A very nice mid-60's VW seen at the Coppell TX car show last month. I'm thinking it's a '66? My '68 had pop-out rear windows like this one.
