Many desirable cars, SUVs, and trucks are no longer available with a manual gearbox. Unfortunately this has been a trend in the US market especially with the improvements in automatics. One has to go old school to find a fun car with a manual gearbox. In a year or so I'll be looking for a mid to late 80s SAAB 900 turbo to play with if I can find one that's not trashed or a rust bucket.
Caused by EPA mandates. The auto company has to meet a real-world mileage and emission mandate, knowing the imprecision of humans. They can design a computer controlled engine and automatic transmission that will meet the EPA test protocol, but can’t meet the test protocol for manual trans. The manual trans protocol has a (negative) mileage and emission penalty for human driving characteristics. Or so EPA thinks. They believe manual transmissions encourage racy driving and unnecessary downshifting.

Every dummy device on a modern car is mandated by the (EPA or NTSB) Nanny State.

Went to Barrett-Jackson auction preview with my Panasonic LX100. These are a few of the cars I found interesting...

Two 1937 Ford custom coupes. The monochrome eggshell one sold for $40,000. The tangerine went for $50,000.

A view of the cars and trailer during the recent invasion visit by my family and friends for the oldest grandson's high school graduation.

Three shots, exposed with a K-1 and Sigma 28mm f2.8 Mini Wide.

A photo from Amtrak's California Zephyr of a few locomotives, outside of Grand Junction, CO. All of the train windows are two panes of plexiglas so photos aren't always the best.

Probably way more Zephyr shots to come!

But first some cars on I70 in Glenwood Canyon, CO, from the train across the Colorado River. The highway came last so it had to be wedged into the opposite bank, east and west lanes stacked, thousand foot cliffs next to it. Lots of highways have "Fallen Rock" signs but here you have a good chance to see a substantial rock from those cliffs right in the center of the lane, mostly in the spring.

Was there a stop in Billings this year Steve?

I caught them at Paine Field back in 2007, and got an hour of right seat time in the B25.

Here is the B24.

It was great show and a good day for it. It was a bit crowded so most of what I shot was from close up and not many of the whole plane.

It was my first time out with the new K-1. I'm going to like this camera, a lot!

Here are a few more shots.

It is an awesome camera. I've hardly touched my K5IIs since I got my K-1.
