Thanks, Martin. The EAA Airventure airshow is the best airshow I've ever attended, by far! Highly recommended to anyone who can get there!

I thought the F-16 was the Fighting Falcon?

Viper is the name given to the newest F-16V version of the aircraft, which includes much updated radar and other systems.

The label with the pictured plane in the aircraft museum at Pearl Harbor called it "Viper" in quotes after F-16A.

Here's a B17E that's no longer flying. The "Swamp Ghost" went down in a dense jungle in New Guinea early in the war. Pilot & crew took six weeks to walk out, but they all survived. The plane remained there, visible from the air, for decades before being exhumed and brought to the air museum at Pearl Harbor. BTW: it fought a running battle with as many as ten Japanese fighters, but a fuel tank in the wing was punctured by ground-based anti-aircraft fire and the pilot was forced to ditch as there was not enough fuel to get over the high mountains of New Guinea.

This B-17 is in a little better condition than of the interesting shot taken by WPRESTO.
My wife's father was a mechanic for these planes, stationed in the South Pacific during WWII.

The “noise” is music to my ears, and, if properly tuned, the scent of high octane fuel is always a delight to my olfactory gland.

No offense here, just different strokes for different folks. For me the best noise from an automobile is silence. In that regard I really like the Prius. As to smells, neither gasoline nor burnt rubber appeals to my nostrils. I wince at autos and motorcycles that sound like they need a new muffler, and the odor of toxic chemicals that can cause respiratory distress is never welcome. I would never live downwind of an oil refinery nor an incinerator specializing in tire disposal.

BUT Different strokes for different folks.

(Forgive the correction)

It is 400 (cubic inch engine), 4 barrel (carburetor, some will say 4 speed, for the transmission, but not all had manual gearboxes), 2 door.
