look beyond the wood duck,

look instead at water and what it reveals in its distortions of the reflections of the duck, the leaves and the trees

This is an reflection off of a outdoor display at the Western Historic Trails Center in Council Bluffs Iowa

I also enclosed a photo of the full display with the representation of the elevation of the Mississippi River on the right and the descent to the Pacific on the left

The display represents the rise and fall of the elevation faced by those going from the Mississippi River (lower left of the photo with reflection) west across the Plains and Mountains to the Pacific.

(unfortunately in order to get the reflection, I lost the last descent to the Pacific Ocean in the photo)

You can find the display and a lot of other interesting info at the Center in Council Bluff, Iowa

it is well worth the time to visit if you are in the area of Council Bluff (or its western suburb Omaha Nebraska)
