The John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge in Cincinatti. Same designer of the Brooklyn Bridge.

If anybody here has watched Ken Burn's Civil War series that is the same John Roebling that is quoted several times in the series.

Agreed. On one hand it looks strong, solid and built to last. On the other hand it also looks somewhat menacing and dangerous, like the fortress of a villain.

those brick towers really define it.

I've walked many times around Astoria Park, where the eastern tower stands... it is massive! like a building all on its own.

Who ever laid the last brick in that edifice surely patted it and stated "yep, that ain't going no where".

The Whitestone on the other hand needed to be reinforced after the Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster as the designs were very similar. Nice photos.

Agreed It's probably safer to walk around the bridge than on it

Bridges photographed from an Amtrak train taking us home from NYC. Edom may be able to name some of these.

First, Beautiful shot at the Triboro!! It is to my humble opinion one of the most underrated NYC Bridges... People should see it at dusk/night from Astoria Park or even Roosevelt Island...

The second one is the Randall Island to Manhattan connector (West-end of the Triboro bridge system). I had to search for the name, it is called the Harlem River Lift Span.

The Third one is the Randall Island to the Boogiedown connector (North-end of the Triboro bridge system). I had to search for the name, it is called the Truss Span.

The Fourth one - you got me there... I wanted to say it is part of a Bridge I actually was able to photograph today (see below), but I doubt it...

I don't think the fourth photo is of the East River but I don't remember which of the several other water crossings the train and interstate make on the way into New England (Pelham Bay, Hutchison River, etc.)

Maybe around New Rochelle? I don't recall a body of water there. Looks like a shallow too.
