Railroad bridge over the Willamette. In theory, the main part of the bridge can rotate 90° on the central pylon to allow tall ships to pass, but I've never seen it done.

Two views of the Illinois River bridge at Havana, Illinois.

From the archive of my third digital camera, a 4-megapixel Casio QV-R40, which I picked up at a pawn shop in downtown Peoria, Illinois.

A not very good series I shot of a base jumper hurling himself off of the Perrine Memorial Bridge, over the Snake River at Twin Falls, Idaho. I was driving across the bridge and saw some people getting ready to jump, so I pulled off just past the bridge and grabbed my camera and ran to the viewpoint to watch and get a few quick snaps.

That white stuff is snow. It was February when I passed through there.

Cool, I went there a few years ago. I spent the night in Twin Falls, and got some pictures of the bridge in the morning before heading out.

I read that Evel Knievel tried to jump the canyon here in 1974 on a steam rocket. His parachute deployed too early, and the wind blew him right back to the same side he started on, only feet from the edge of the river. His safety harness got stuck, too, so he likely would have drowned if the rocket had landed in the water.

People are crazy.

Yes, the launch ramp was set up about 2 miles East of the bridge.

The media hype leading up to the “motorcycle jump” was intense.

Then the day came, along with the huge disappointment. I doubt he ever planned on it being successful.
