In case you could not guess, we were traveling off Manhattan eastbound along the south shore of Connecticut toward New Haven where, SFAIK, the Amtrak turns north toward Hartford and Springfield, MA. The flat interstate bridge, and adjacent far older steel RR bridge is somewhere along the CT shore.
As to the Triboro, I've almost always seen it from the roadway where, IMHO, it is not especially beautiful in the manner of say the GW Bridge from the upper roadway, or the Whitestone, Throg's Neck, or the Outerbridge Crossing and numerous other NYC bridges seen when either approaching or crossing.
