In case you could not guess, we were traveling off Manhattan eastbound along the south shore of Connecticut toward New Haven where, SFAIK, the Amtrak turns north toward Hartford and Springfield, MA. The flat interstate bridge, and adjacent far older steel RR bridge is somewhere along the CT shore.

As to the Triboro, I've almost always seen it from the roadway where, IMHO, it is not especially beautiful in the manner of say the GW Bridge from the upper roadway, or the Whitestone, Throg's Neck, or the Outerbridge Crossing and numerous other NYC bridges seen when either approaching or crossing.

If you ever find yourself in LIC or Astoria at night, do yourself a favour... worth it. Especially looking south from Astoria Park (by around the Hell Gate Bridge base).

This old suspension bridge crosses the Thames in Buckinghamshire. This shot shows the some of the structure above and below the roadway of the bridge:

Back in 2000's, seldom folks spoke about Astoria Queens, and most Astoria web-searches took you to Oregon.

Nowadays Astoria Queens is similarly popular as Williamsburg (Brooklyn) - hipsters and many Mid-West implants taking over (no offense to the good Mid-West folks lurking here).
