Post your Church images

Whenever on a wander, always seem to encounter a church that is worth an attempt at capturing the architecture, style and history.

Have seen a few great shots here browsing through the threads, but the only thread that have found with the topic is a weekly challenge back in 2007. So, thought would start thread with a church theme. Not necessarily just a picture of church as seen when passing by, but as creative as one cares to be of any aspect.

Here's one from one of my wanderings to start things off.
A 12th (as best as have determined) Century Byzantine church.

Post processing included a 'free-hand transform' where have tried to reduce the distortion on the separate belfry.

Congregational Church, South Salem, NY

I've always liked this image, even if it is a bit of a cliche, New England church in winter. I think it has to do with the blue sky, classic lines and white snow. Without the cars it could go for a schlocky "New England" calendar.
DS, kit lens. F8.0 @ 1/1000

Seems my use of the word church did sound restricting. Not meant. The thread is intended to hold theme in the broader architectural and historical sense, where images of temples and other places of worship, dedication, ceremony etc from all societies are all in topic.

Got this shot back in May 2007

The staircase that leads to tomorrow

This is the staircase that leads from WenWu Temple Sun Moon Lake,Taiwan down to boat dock. The medallion/amulets are the prayer requests or offerings of thanks from visitors there.

I have a few images from houses of worship that I can add...

Baptistry in Salzburger Dom (Salzberg Cathedral)

K10D Pentax-DA 18-55/3.5-5.6

Mozart was christened at this fount.

Law and Judgement, Mariendom, Linz, Austria

K10D Pentax-DA 18-55/3.5-5.6

This window in St. Mary's Cathedral faces another of similar design whose theme is God's grace and forgiveness.

I will post more as I find them.

It is unfortunate that I lacked a longer lens and a tripod. The individual sections are striking and include imagery from the biblical Old Testament and the book of Revelation (Apocalypse) . Mariendom is the largest cathedral in Austria and can accommodate 20,000 people. Very cool place.

I keep coming back to this one. The way that the bottom sort of disappears lends the notion of infinity.
