I was shooting with iPhone above my head and wasn't even sure if I caught the sign.

Re the AF080C, it's still in pieces on my workbench.

Boys at the beach. The proximity to the sign makes it a fun photo - and yes, the boys were safe.

I saw & photographed a old jail cell of the same basic design out in the deserts of southern California, except it had two rather than three compartments.

Perhaps it was a prefabricated design sold to hundreds of small local sheriff's offices around the country. I wonder if traveling salesmen handled the orders or if they were mail-order, as from Sears Roebuck or Monkey Wards?

Any local blacksmith worth his salt could have assembled one of them, and prior to the 1920s every town had one or more blacksmiths, and a few had them many years after that.

When searching for the image above of a very secure and uncomfortable-looking lockup I came across this forgotten image of a road sign. The desert tortoise is become rare to the point of endangered because of its leisure manner crossing roads.
