One of several towns whose remains are under the water of Quabbin Reservoir. Some buildings were moved, other demolished. As far as humanly possible all burials were dug up and placed in a new cemetery. There's a legend that a hatter had a shop in one of the towns, and the well or dump where he disposed of waste mercury was never properly cleaned up because the full dangers of mercury, and regulations for handling it, did not exist when the reservoir was built.

Has the reservoir been tested for mercury levels?
