I have a feeling they might not encourage swimming - nor leaving your car, really. We had a nice walk anyway

Makes me think of a few lines by Tom Lehrer:
Fish gotta swim and birds gotta fly,
But they don't last long if they try.

Suitable for HGVs? Somehow I doubt it...
Maybe if they're referring to hypersonic glide vehicles?

Are they hoping to extend the California high-speed train system into Idaho?

Stay On Trail

That is somewhat creepy considering the deaths from falls this year in the USA. Within the past 24 hours a 20 year old student fell to her death from a cliff while hiking in New York state.

Dead serious and clear as crystal. I was glad to see they used a suitable but neutral "enemy forces." That mitigates the chances of sometime later offending someone who has become a friend.

California has a high-speed train?

With the total fixation on every individual having their own car, who would ride it?

Always sad to hear that sort of news.

But the stay on trail sign is to keep park visitors from trampling the fragile lava beds.

High(er) speed rail connecting the coastal cities, especially SFO and LA, has been in the hopeful & planning stages for some time. Federal assistance has been promised, but I think that has now been withdrawn. I don't think California is popular with some of forces that be.

The Richmond Hotel and Tavern, a local watering hole established in 1852, which passes for "old" in these parts:

Smaller signs, closer to home. We have a saying (probably shared with many communities) that we have two seasons here: winter and construction. Well, sometimes they overlap...

All the snow in these photos has since disappeared; the construction, not quite yet.
