No explanation needed for my desire to share this shot. Apparently giant runts are a breed of pigeon, and this is a pigeon fanciers club.

I like the 'Members Only' part of the sign as if non interested persons would be 'Flocking' to get in there.

Much more rain and they can pull up that "No Parking" sign.
And speaking of water----- Actually, even without the sign I would not have been tempted.

That's funny, my mother always refers to big American sedans like the Town Car in your picture as "boat cars." That boat looks like it's ready to set sail.

I call them "cruising vessels", and that one will be setting sail if the owner doesn't move it from that spot! (more rain on the way)

I had the feeling when driving my parents' late '50's Impala that I was on an aircraft carrier looking across the landing deck.

Thoughtful of them to warn us. They also made the sign legible by using stencils instead of lettering freehand.

Gotta love that Old West authenticity. I guess they used to store all their tools on the roof back in the day, too. I see their padlocks were way ahead of their time, though.

Anachronisms aside, that's a beautiful location. Southeast California?

Restored mining town of Calico. Got in and out just as the massive busloads were arriving. It's an interesting mix of authentic and hopelessly hokey. Certainly a good many photo-ops.
Comparison photos below (I know there are no signs so these shouldn't be in this thread). A new bottle house at Calico ("The Other Side" is a curio concession being operated inside), and an authentic old bottle house in Rhyolite. Notice the broken-bottle fence around the latter.
