As someone who walks a dog daily, I sometimes understand, sometimes get annoyed by "No Dogs Allowed." What bothers me most is the prohibition against dogs around the huge Quabbin Reservoir where there are numerous very pleasant places to walk. Some will quickly say it's an obvious sanitation and human health protection measure. But I say, if you are worried about dog poop, what about the excrement from opossum, raccoon, skunk, porcupine, weasels, squirrels, mice, bear, fox, coyote, deer, birds, waterfowl, frogs, turtles and fish? The latter wildlife vastly outnumber any dogs that might be walked, and all of the wildlife is there 24/365, including hundreds of thousands that dump all their poop directly into the water not on a woodland trail a quarter mile away, the prohibition against dogs because of their poop seems transparently nonsensical.
