Lovely capture and a beautiful sheen on it.

I had never seen a turtle stretch like a cat before.

I managed to get a skimk for the first time. I rarely see them and they are gone in a second. This one was in a corner and felt fairly safe. I looks like its pregnant or just ate a big meal. I didn't get a good shot before it crawled under the rock because my flash was blocked by foliage which is probably why it wasn't to worried.

I got the trifecta between the skink last night. This gecko overnight, and the anole this morning. I have seen 3 skinks in a year, 4 geckos in a year, and lots of anoles. When the young hatch they are all over until they grow big and take over a territory and keep the others away.

The first one is a Vine Snake, or Twig Snake, that has excellent camouflage, and one of two Southern African Snakes for which there is no anti-venom. You will need several blood transfusion to save your life if you are unfortunate enough to get bitten by one. The other is the Boomslang, and of the two, the vine snake is probably the most venomous, though the experts name the Boomslang as the most venomous. I have however seen the Vine snake consume the Boomslang.

I was in SA back in 2002. Saw 1 lizard on table mountain and thats it. Food was the poison thay got my future family sick, not venom. They ate the meat in Joberg. My base was about 30 minutes north of Pretoria. Spent time out with the prickly pears and only saw tadpoles.
My major regret was not going to a shebeen because it was frowned upon. I did see a black mamba skin 2 meters long in Botswana.
Khutso. ( peace)

Well, I am sorry you got some food poisoning Swanlefitte, One of the hazards of travelling I'd guess. Snakes are not often seen in the wild, as they tend to avoid humans when they "feel" us coming along, and will usually slip away. In over 30 years of visiting Kruger Park I've seen a snake about 6 times.
Oh, and not visiting a shebeen is definitely something to regret, but also to be grateful for. It can be a dangerous place! Hope you come again!

I didn't get food poisoning because i don't eat meat. My wife got it and stuck on a plane with a blown engine meaning can't leave your seat while we sit here. Compensated a free flight which meant trip to Vic Falls so great.
You really make me wish i visited a shebeen now. I understand danger, Lucky Dubes death hit home. Its like that here. Last month my gf was hospitalized. Last week police were beat up outside the club i worked at. The list is long. You say go well there instead of goodbye, we say be safe.
And gators are common here even in the city but snakes don't grow up because of the wild chickens.

At least our venomous snake have the common courtesy to rattle and let you know they're dangerous...

Great Basin rattlesnake.

Albino rattlesnake.

And yes, there was a thick piece of glass between me and them.
