In south-eastern Australia, a lot of snakes emerge from hibernation in October. There were three people bitten in Victoria in the first warm weekend. We came across this snake on a track in Wonthaggi Heathland, Victoria. I'm not sure whether it's an Eastern Brown or Lowland Copperhead (both venomous) - any IDs welcome. K-3 + DA 55-300 PLM.

Des, would have been a better shot if you had used a 12 gauge.
- not an eastern brown IMO.

Thanks Rod, so probably a copperhead.

As for the 12 gauge - you trying to get me into trouble? :-( Protected species. Discharging firearm in a public reserve. Anyway, I like snakes, so long as I don't stand on one - it's their heathland as much as mine.

Well, Tim, THIS one isn't from Suffolk, so it must be South Asia I guess? What a funny-shaped lizard! Do you know what it is?

I found this pretty little snake when we visited Florida this October. It was at the playground, and for some reason it made me think of the European smooth snake, which I have never seen in the wild. But I am completely reptile-ignorant, so if someone actually know what I saw I would really appreciate an introduction!

Quite right Mette,I believe it's a Balinese Skink,it's body looks a bit more compressed because of the angle it was shot at.
We do have a slightly similar lizard in Suffolk so we are not without some wildlife, just not as exotic as the tropics.I have a pic somewhere and will try to dig it out and post here.

This one definitely was taken in Suffolk
