I don't usually use my Tamron 70-300, as I find myself wanting to take wider shots every time I have it mounted, and it is quite a poor performer at the long range which is the reason to have it on in the first place (over my Pentax 18-135). But sometimes I'm surprised by it and enjoy the photos I come home with. Here I had accidentally left the lens in "macro mode" and wasn't able to zoom out far enough for a portrait. hah

This is X-posted from the Flickr explore thread on the flimsy excuse that I'd meant to put it here first then it got explored

Well done, the little boy and the birds transform this from being just another "great" landscape into something much better.....IMHO of course

Thanks

There's a quote I love by Roger Ballen which sums up a philosophy I've long had, but hadn't articulated so well - and I think it's at work here:

"A photograph is perceived as authentic if the viewer believes that the photographer has captured a moment that can never be repeated."

To me it goes beyond that -if I were making a book of my pictures, the one's I'd want to include, in whatever genre, would be the ones that it was hardest for you or anybody else to go out and replicate - that's the sort of thing that grips my attention anyway - though I knbow that a lot of people like landscapes or portraits here the interest is in the subject not so much the photograph.

Yes, very true. I guess I had the "human element" stuck in my head. Ignoring that, I still agree with you, whether it is a landscape after an ice-storm, a colourful springtime meadow lit up in the morning sun, etc, etc....the uniqueness and rarity of an image certainly makes it a fav in my eyes.
