I love the placement of the shadows. Beautiful scene captured beautifully in black and white. I would normally think of blue sky and green ocean and golden sand to make this work.

P.S.

Is the curved horizon due to your setting your Sigma to 8mm?

Thank you for your comments, chmance. The grid effect of the fronds and shadows and the brilliance of the small gazebo on the sand appealed to me as b&w subject matter. The green and blue is rather more cliché.

The framing is as straight from camera unwrapped. The curved horizon is because I squatted down and aimed up a little to cut a bit off the foreground and while the lens is rectilinear it does distort a little in this way at 8mm.

I'm using my Sigma 70-200/2.8 for the single in challenge this month..... so nothing special here....on a tripod, manual settings, sigma 530 flash pointing up.....with a $5 ebay bendy reflector thingy sending some light forward....maybe flash set to 1/2 power....camera shutter set go one shot every 5 seconds.....focus at desired point.....then I walked .....

Raw conversion in DXO....then Dxo filmpak old glass plate sim.....some minor adjustments in lightroom.....thats it. Taken at the Curency Creek cemetery around dusk.

Colour version here
