sorry for the noise. This was shot at iso 3200 and pushed another stop in post. I was at 300mm and 1/125 second and that was the best I could do and be steady hand holding.
Pretty good considering the challenges of the situation, the noise doesn't really detract from the overall image. I've thought about picking up one of those 55-300mm because they are unbelievably inexpensive these days, but honestly I don't know under what situations I would actually use one.

One from high up in the Rockies with a K3 + da*55mm which besides being a superb portrait lens, also makes for a nice WR landscape lens as well. A lot more detail can bee seen by viewing the larger version.

Its a darker image but there can be beauty in darkness,
and sometimes life is that way too...

This is nice but a tad too dark in the foreground IMO. At least on this monitor.
Lifting the shadows to give a little definition there could elevate this shot from nice to very nice!

Hey matt123 thanks for your feedback! As I am always looking to improve I am delighted when someone takes the time to give me their opinion. In this case I agree and actually I had processed 3 versions of this shot...all variants on the darkened foreground. My mood on that day closely matched what I was visually experiencing up there in those amazing mountains (I envy you for making your home in CO), and I almost didn't share it as a result.

I had to strike a balance between what I was feeling and how best to articulate that through the final image...and I have to keep in mind that even though my monitors are calibrated, for certain things I never really know how the output will be until I actually print it. I edited my post with one of the other variants that I hope comes off a little more defined without losing too much subtlety.

You're welcome. Glad you don't mind a little feedback. Sometimes I can't help myself and I give it when it's not expected or appreciated.

The revised version is an improvement. I'd probably take it a little farther but this is subjective. Also keep in mind prints will look darker than on screen for the same image.

I hope I never have to leave the mountains permanently; I feel like I belong here.

No worries ...yeah I know its darker than usual but it was never really meant to be a true landscape anyway just something I wanted to express.

With the calibration system I have the B&W prints work out really well but it has me adjust the monitor brightness very low, however I manually increase the brightness if I am messing with RAWs during the day and I have to remember to tone it back down at night. I've been wanting a newer system that has ambient light monitoring but have yet to buy. Regarding where you live, I have the opposite problem in that I feel like I don't belong in any one particular place

from a weekend walk on the Dorset heathland - not the classic heath image, but I liked the way the shapes and tones worked

I have been photographing butterflies on a lightbox. This conversion to b/w was done in Silver Efex Pro.
(The butterflies were dead when I got them.)
