The ruins of Fort Union, near Watrous, New Mexico.
From mid- to end-1800s this massive fort was established to protect wagon trains of white settlers from angry native residents whose lands were being usurped for the purpose of becoming large cattle ranching operations. Union soldiers occupied it during that period, where they were also involved in a few civil war skirmishes. It was decommissioned in 1891 and essentially abandoned until re-established as a national monument around 1953. It is an eerie and remote place to visit of scattered walls held up with beamed reinforcements.

Nicely rendered in monochrome. I'd wager that setting up in the same place as the first image and doing a night sky or meteor shower session would produce some fantastic images...
