First shot I ever took on my Leica Monochrom...With the recent K3 MKIII Monochrome announcement I'd expect to see a few shots like this...highlights (almost) blown into oblivion. On a monochrome camera you don't have the blue/green channels to save you.

An interesting observation. I hadn’t considered the effect of the colour filter on highlights. Nonetheless, I’ll be watching to see what price the K3iii Monochrome commands here.

The Tri-Elmar has a very good reputation. I almost envy your combination, there.

Some Leicaphiles look sideways at it... It's slow, no RF has the correct framelines for it*, it isn't particularly sharp at wide settings and you can't use filters on it without an adapter as the front element has pronounced curvature. Also it has a weird distortion characteristic that isn't consistent between focal length settings. On the plus side it's a very convenient lens to have in the bag, and substantially cheaper than the Leica Summilux 21mm f/1.4 ASPH - though I own a copy of that lens too.

Pentax K10D - FA77mm f/1.8 Limited ISO 400 f/5.6 1/100th

*an external viewfinder with matching frame-lines does exist, and it's one the most expensive viewfinder accessory I have ever seen and would be exceedingly annoying to replace if you ever have the misfortune to lose it. As well engineered as it is, the frankenfinder isn't the most aesthetically pleasing piece of kit.

I guess my currently infrequent ventures into monochrome terrain don't warrant a dedicated camera, and for sure not a new focus on the smaller format. So for now, monochrome interpretations of color-filtered raw data from the K-1 and KP:

The morning was heavy with fog following a late-winter ice storm. I thought a B&W treatment suited the mood.

The image turned out the way I had envisioned when I was planning my outing. Amazingly, the location was a local recreation park, only 10 minutes by car from my house.

K-3 Mark III (not Monochrome ), DA 18-135mm. RAW file developed in DxO Photolab 6, tweaked in Affinity Photo.
