I would try it off the "A" and use manual mode at f1.4 and see if it makes a difference. Or you can look at lens and press the shutter and see if you can notice the aperture shutting down, from f1.4 to f2 will be noticeable. Sometimes cleaning the camera and/or lens contacts helps. Occasionally, an "A" lens of mine will not register correctly but after a little cleaning works just fine.

I think you might be right about the f stop, and the adapter I got has a chip that tells the camera it is a 50mm f2 no matter what. Here is another of the flowers, I am glad to see them.
