Karen, that is very touching...

I found this graveyard in newtown Connecticut yesterday. Drove past it on my way somewhere and came back. based on the location I was fairly certain it would have an "old" section. These were taken from a section that had a bunch of stones from the late 1760's. All have some form of the "Death's Head" motif.

Mr Joseph Gunn. Died August 12, 1768. Could not find his genealogy, but the Gunns appeared to have come from Milford and were well married with the Northrops - see Hannah, below...

In Memory of Hannah the wife of Mr. Jeremiah Northrop Died March the 19th AD 1767 in the 70th year of her age. I was able to find quite a bit about here. Maiden name was Hannah Benedict born daughter of Samuel Benedict , Jr.. about 1697. Married to Jeremiah Northrup II about 1718 in Newtown, Connecticut. In 1743, Jeremiah joined in petition to the General Assembly held at Hartford, Connecticut, for the formation of Newbury Society, which resulted in the formation of the town of Brookfield, Connecticut. They had nine children... see RootsWeb's WorldConnect Project: Northrups & Families

In the graveyard of the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Radnage, Buckinghamshire. This medieval gravestone commemorates the man who reputedly killed the last bear in England. You can still make out a bear on the right and a man standing with a bow and, possibly, a shield or symbolic hourglass in the centre. It's probably a rather tall story since bears are thought to have died out in England hundreds of years before this period. But perhaps it's really true - it's so easy to disregard evidence from the past.

In the churchyard of St Cross in Hollywell, Oxford. Quite a few famous people are buried here including the author of "The Wind in the Willows".

Fantastic photos everyone. Thank you. Always interesting to see how others view cemeteries.

Newby here, still shooting with my Fuji P&S, but look forward to adding to this once I get my Pentax. May have to share some recent photos anyway...

So many excellent photos in this thread. Old cemeteries are best; inspiring, peaceful.

Here's one from St John the Baptist churchyard in Canberra.

(And a little wider in the gallery. Stitched from 6 exposures, K20D & FA31LTD.)
