Originally posted by Fries The photo perhaps isn't that special, but there is a story behind it. It is quite common to encounter sad stories on a graveyard, but this one was really bad. Some young people drunk or high on something destroyed al lot of graves overnight and I had to interview some of the people discovering that the graves of there loved ones were attacked this way. The grave on this photo was for a young child. His father picked up the remains and displayed them this way.
No, that photo
is special, because of this story. Even without, the image conveys to us that there is a story waiting to be told. OK, so we could talk about the technical merits, but we do that (I know I do) far too often.
Here is one I forgot about until today, since it was shot on a previous Pentaxium. Strictly speaking it is not a graveyard, it is a shrine I somehow found in Co. Clare. You can see that the land around has been cleared and a wall built up in a circle. From this perspective it rather looks like distant mountains!
People take a lot of care with these in Ireland.
I shot this at 16mm and built up three images into the exposure you see here. People have wondered what flash I used, etc. but I generally use only natural light. The "flash" is simply another exposure.
The sun was setting right behind the shrine as we got there. Serendipity!
Shrine, Co. Clare (Shot with the DA 16-45mm.)
