Pentax noob in Rochester NY

Greetings,

I got my first Pentax, a K10D, two days ago, moving up from a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ-30 digicam. Prior to that, I shot film with manual-focus Canon equipment, (A1 and T90), and Mamiya medium format. Haven't shot any film in almost two years, so it was time to sell the MF gear and get a serious DSLR.

I really like the technical features of the K10D. shake reduction, ISO adjustment at the control wheels just like shutter speed and aperture, great bracketing capabilities for HDR shooting, weather sealed for drizzly birding days. I looked hard at Canon's Digital Rebel XT1, and Nikon's D80, but they just didn't meet my needs as well as the K10D. Now, as long as Hoya just doesn't abandon the camera business . . .

I'm a former Eastman Kodak employee and erstwhile member of the now-defunct Kodak Camera Club.

I enjoy landscape, travel, and nature photography. I've come to admit that I'm too lazy to make a good nature photographer. The guys who get the best shots get up far too early in the morning, and spend too much time hiding out in freezing cold for me.
