Not new to Pentax but just joined Officially

Hey all,

This site has been a great resource over the past few years so I just decided to join up and stop lurking.

My joining coincides with some good purchases over the past week. I traded up from my K-10D to a new K-7, and rounded out my lens collection with an FA limited 77mm and a DA Limited 35mm Macro.

I love Pentax and what it offers vs. the other big players. Aside from my Pentax, I also have a Ricoh GR Digital II 28mm that is a great point and shoot option with a fixed 28mm lens. Used to shoot with a Contax G-1 when I was using film.

Hopefully I will be able to offer something while I keep soaking up the knowledge of others around here.

Thanks guys.

I did a little shooting today with the K-7 and the 77mm 1.8 in RAW+ but then realized afterwards that I didn't have the RAW set to DNG which left me with only JPEGS to work with.

Fixed that for next time. That being said, I am astounded at the quality onboard AWB and the color reproduction from that lens. It really is kind of magical.

BTW, if you were shooting RAW+ but didn't have RAWset to DNG, then you should have PEF files for your RAW - not just JPEG.

Hi,

Yeah I am aware of that. I did, but the PEF files were not recognized by the photoshop elements that I have on my netbook which I always have with me. I assumed PEF which I haven't used before is Pentax specific and not compatible with PS?

I think there are free converters out there, in case this ever becomes an issue.

For Elements v6, I had to get the ACR 8.5 (or something) update for it to recognize the K20D PEFs. Just put it in the plugins folder.

Thanks for the info guys.

Is there any advantages to using PEF over DNG?
