Southern USA

Good morning all! I'm SO new that I don't yet own the Pentax camera I have been salivating over. . I've had a point & shoot camera for 2-3 years and am ready to take the DSLR plunge.

I have decided on the Pentax k-x for a multitude of reasons but mainly because it will be my first DSLR and it's within budget for me. After a lot of reading, I think I will get the camera with the 18-55 lens only. After time I will decide which lens will better fit my needs and purchase that (those) separately.

I look forward to skimming through the forums here and learning A LOT!

Good to have you on board. You will enjoy shooting with the K-x.
A wise move to learn and get used to shooting with the kit lens.
Well done and welcome here.

Ordering the Pentax K-X in NAVY...woohooo...this weekend!! It can't get here fast enough!

As far as SDHC cards go - do you all think Class 6 is good enough, or go for something higher - 8 or 10??

**Off to search for threads regarding SDHC cards**

6 is fine. People who do a lot of video get the highest possible.

I lived in Greenville, NC for a year in the 70s. Are you anywhere near there?

Cool beans! We live near Charlotte. Greenville is about 4 hrs from here, I think. We used to live in High Point....furniture capital of the world.

GREAT! Thank you so much for the information!

We're ALL about Lexington style BBQ. Most likely because that is what we were raised on. We would make the 1/2 hour trek to Lexington BBQ at least once a month when I was growing up. And if people don't care for BBQ, they make a kick-a$$ cheeseburger!!

Update - Navy sold out before I could get to it. Guess Black it will be....not really a big deal - I am more about function than esthetics.

Your future lenses will match better anyway. I wanted to comment on this issue of getting colored K-xs, but to each his own.

And eastern Q was too vinegary and watery for me.

It's funny you mention that b/c I have always thought the same myself. In looking at the colored versions, Navy is the only one I considered for that very reason. The navy wouldn't be *as* obvious when future lenses are black. But yes, I agree and am very happy with getting my camera in black!

I hope not to go crazy-insane with waiting this week!! LOL

Thank you, thank you!! I will do that, you have been so nice to me and it's very much appreciated!

I will say, just tinkering around with my k-x this afternoon....I am already in love! I'm looking forward to getting out, taking pics and of course, learning as much as I can from the great people on this board!

Couldn't resist posting one of my first pics.....my baby girl, Jinx!
