Hi from Australia

Hi everyone

I'm in between casual and enthusiast - I take happy snaps, also some macro and landscape. My first 35mm camera was a Voigtlander back in the mid 60s, then a Praktika, but from the late 70s it's been Pentax. First a Spotmatic, then a P30, now a K100d. Nowadays I mostly use a Tamron 18-250 lens which is quite OK (especially as I can correct the lens distortion if necessary!) and occasionally the old Pentax-A 28-80 macro lens which doesn't have autofocus. I'm looking forward to learning much more on the forum.

Cheers, Alex

Welcome Alex!

Interesting that you used a Praktica. I recently bought one at an estate sale for pennies and sold it on eBay. I had never heard of the brand before but did a little research while selling it. What a heavy beast to have carried around compared to what we use today.

Best,

John Trax

G'day Alex.
You're in a good place - not too serious, and keen to learn.
Keep at it and enjoy the journey.
Look forward to your contributions here.

Hi John

Yes it was heavy all right. I was given it by a mate who was an engineer, and he had been taking photos of a job from a light aircraft when it hit some turbulence. The front of the lens hit the windscreen quite heavily and ever after it had a "sticky" spot in the focus - obviously some damage to the focus thread. But it still took good photos. He went out and bought a Pentax to replace it.

Cheers, Alex

Hi Alex.
Welcome.
My first camera was a Praktica IV (got it from my big brother in settlement of a debt).
On this forum you will find lots of memtion about the shutter noise of the current crop of Pentax dSLRs. Those who complain probably never heard the shutter of a Praktica!
The forum is a great place to feed off the experiences of Pentaxians across the world.
It is also a great opportunity to help others when you are able.
Cheers.

And another new Aussie here!
There seems to be plenty going on, and lots of good info to sort through.
