New to the Forum, old to Pentax

Hello, I'm new here , not a Pro by any means so be patient please. The name is Mike or Michael and I'm in Calgary. My Dad is a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society so for the last 50+ years I have had lots of pretty neat stuff to play with, mostly Pentax with some Contax and Yashica's thrown in to cause problems with lens adapters..
My main hobby is not Photography (gasp) so I lost touch with whats going on but I keep stepping back behind a lens once in a while to see if I can still get it right.

I spent many years lugging around my 6x7 until I figured out that I could buy a new sports car instead of the 300mm lens I wanted, for the same price...the car won.

Now I just got a boatload of equipment (Dad's) and I'm trying to figure out what to keep, what I can use and what to buy to move on into the DSLR world. He had a *istD that I plan on using for a while, at least until I can figure out a go-forward plan. Other than that I'm looking for guidance...

Good to have you on board, Pentax veteran.
The *ist D is a special little camera - first generation Pentax dSLR, small body (that Pentax has now gone back to in K-7/K-5), beautiful rich colour CCD sensor and smooth function.

Lenses will be your limiting factor.
Enjoy your time here and your photography.

Aha, I've got three lenses that work on the *istD, checked on the pentax website and found a lens chart for all the various cameras, very helpful. Checked 'em out on the camera and they all seem good.

Now to clean up the mess in the basement...

They got the hell out of Venezuela when the gettin' was good, and he works for Majestic.
