Hi all,

Well, I've been lurking and absorbing for a couple of years now. I thought it might be time to sign up and start joining in a little. Not least because I'm becoming increasingly interested in some of the marketplace stuff.

So, my Pentax story. . . . .

First Pentax was the MZ-50 - el cheapo entry level film SLR purchased for me by my (now ex-)girlfriend about 15 years ago - might even be more. During the life of that great basic camera, I bought a couple of other consumer zooms (Sigma from memory) so when I went to upgrade, it was simpler to stick with Pentax - I wonder how many people have fallen into it like me!! I bought the MZ-5n - absolutely brilliant camera - nothing unnecessary and designed for the interested amateur who didn't want "scene" modes and just wanted to be in control of the camera.

Went digital with *istD and then to the 20D. In the New Year, I will upgrade to the K5.

Have really got into the photography over the last 3 years and rapidly expanded my knowledge and my set-up. In order . . .

FA50 - purchased on the way to Italy - I don't think it left the camera for the duration of the trip and started my love affair with primes
DA21 - purchased in Malaysia on the way home from Italy
FA31 - also in Malaysia - got a reasonably good price but didn't really understand at the time what a legendary lens this was - of course, now I do!! Comfortably my favourite of all time
FA43 - ebay
FA77 - ebay - just had to complete the FA triple
AF-540FGZ
DA*16-50 - ebay - OK, getting ridiculous, gotta stop now.

Except I know I won't - will keep chasing the 50-135, want a 100 macro WR etc. etc. Actually even bought a 645N second hand and am experimenting with a bit of MF film. I may have fallen into Pentax almost by accident but I quite like being the odd man out now!!

Love my camera(s) but having two young kids, lots of my shots are of them - which is great for me, but can be boring unless you know me.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Joy to all,

Paul

Nice chronology and intro Paul.
Interesting journey so far - and it'll just get better with the K-5.
You wouldn't be alone in being a Pentaxian by accident.
Enjoy your time here and all your photographic endeavours.
Be sure to check out both the 645/67 format and K-5 dedicated forums on this fine site.

thanks

Thanks Ash and Ira - I read through a lot of the 645 forum before I bought the second hand 645N so I'm quite familiar with it. And yes, it has been an interesting journey and I'm looking forward to getting the K5.

Like a lot of people on this and other forums, I have my heart set on an eventual Pentax full frame (although I accept all the arguments against it, I'd still like to see it), but at this point that seems to be an unlikely thing in the near future. The K5 seems like an excellent substitute (who knows, it might even sate my desire for a full frame camera). I like taking a lot of indoor shots of my kids and often find that I need high ISO/fast shutter speed to catch some of the action in those circumstances.

Cheers,

Paul
