Welcome to the forum, you'll get lots of advice here if you ask. The Kx is a good camera to start out on. Keep your eyes open at the markets in London for the old primes you should be able to pick up some good deals. I picked up a SMCM 50 f1.7 in portobello last October for 10 pounds which is well below the market rate over here of about $75-80 and is a great lens to learn manual focus on

I might have to look into something like that as im trying to get to grips with manual focus. Im fine with focusing the shot all round but im struggling trying to get it to focus on something specific in the shot.

then my other suggestion is look at a split image focus screen it will help enormously

these guy offer numerous options and have good instructions for how to do it (and good tools with the screen) there are others as well at lower and higher prices from jinfinance and katzeye. I replaced my k7 screen with thek3 grid and it's made life far simpler for manual focus (most of my lenses are manual focus)
