I didn't know this forum existed until today when I was trying to find out about lenses.
I have a K10D that my Dad gave me when it was about 12 months old. I had said I fancied a DSLR and he offered to buy me one (He is great, my Dad!). However after thinking about it for a while, he said rather than buy me a lesser DSLR I could have his K10D and he bought himself the K20D. I admit I would never have been able to afford one by myself.
Anyway, it has a 18-55 lens which I believe is the standard lens it would be sold with? I was hoping to buy a lens similar to the one Dad has with his K20D which is a 70-300. I thought a 50-200 might be a bit more practical to carry around. I wondered what people on here think?
I have seen one on ebay for around £150 brand new but if I can find something similar second hand I will be very happy. I have an old Miranda macro lens which fits the K10D but will only work in manual focus. I can live with that, so if anyone has any suggestions for an older type lens that I could pick up cheap I'd be very grateful for advice.
There are a few budget telephoto lenses (of the 70-300 variety) to choose from.
My suggestion is if you can afford it, pick up the Pentax DA 55-300. It's a very good quality lens for what it goes for, only it is slightly pricier but smaller than the Tamron or Sigma 70-300 options.
You may be lucky to find one locally, or even on this forum's marketplace, which is a very handy buyer's resource.
