Hi from K-x user

Hi,

went into the store to buy a new Nikon, but it was plain impossible to avoid coming out with the K-x. It just felt so much better in my hands.

This was nine months ago, now I'm spending the days convincing myself I need a K-5.
Or maybe I will buy a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 first - I try to keep it compact. (Btw - does anyone know if the Tamron has weather sealing?)

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I hope you love it here as much as I do. There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum. I don't think that particular lens is weather sealed. I went with the0 Pentax SMC DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 it is weather sealed.

Thanks. I love the camera! Only thing annoying me is the autofocus in low light - but then again what can you expect for the price..

My hobby was lying down. I bought my first Nikon in 1976 - a Nikkormat FTn (was that Nikon N in the US?) which I enjoyed for years.
The later years I've only used compact cameras (Coolpix 600 series). However, one day I was just fed up of waiting forever for the camera to focus, not having a viewfinder etc., and from then on things happened rather quickly.

It was so cool standing ringside waiting for the newly married Swedish Princess Victoria to pass by, and then simply pop into a nearby store buying a new set of batteries to the camera "just in case".

Now you've said the magic words. Ira is fascinated by Swedish women. He might even ask if she was wearing a bikini.

Trying to keep it compact? Why not get a DA 40mm LTD then? Then the LBA will kick in and you'll NEED (not want) the other LTD's I'm already itching for the 77mm to go with my 43mm.

Good point actually. I used to love my 24mm and 50 mm Nikkor prime lenses when I rambled about with the Nikkormat.
And there is also the question of trading compactness and quality for the convenience of a zoom, a question I haven't found an answer to yet.
I feel working with primes more demanding, but also ore rewarding. For example, with a zoom I'm not skilled enough to have (instinctive) control of the depth of field, but with a prime, I am.

I ended up with the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. I like the size, and it also seems to focus OK. So now we'll see about the rest...
