Another new guy from Vancouver....

I've been a P/S digital guy for quite a few years. They've given me a very basic understanding of some of the basics of photography. Again, I stress very basic.
I made the jump to DSLR 2 days ago for a couple of reasons.

First off, my dad has been an avid semi-pro photographer for 50+ years, and his brand of choice was Pentax. Over those years he has acquired a good collection of high end Pentax "K" mount lenses that he recently has said are mine should I want them.

That persuaded me to take the jump, and I bought a very lightly used K100d from a local shop that included what seems to be an inexpensive 28-90mm lens. The salesman was great explaining the camera basics and menu to me, and telling me how dad's lenses will work, but with a menu change re: aperature ring etc.
I'm impressed with the quality this combination has given me so far, and can only imagine what dad's glass will contribute to my enjoyment, and learning curve!

I understand the K100d is ancient in DSLR terms, but think it'll be a good inexpensive way to help introduce me to this hobby.

I look forward to reading, learning and posting with you all.

Good having you here.
The K100D still produces brilliant 6Mp images regardless of its vintage. Enjoy it and this forum.
