Hi Pentaxian,

I have been visiting this site quite regularly searching for manual focus lenses for my Canon bodies. Since age is catching on me, I have decided that I needed AF lenses that render to my liking on their resident bodies. So, I just made the switch and is proud owner of a K5 plus the FA 31f1.8 Ltd. I am scouting for a good 50 as I feel the FA 43 f1.9 Ltd is too close to the FA 31 and a little too short to the 85mm FL that I liked on Canon FF.

I hope I can get some useful tips here from you seniors and look forward to enjoying myself.

Welcome to the forums!

I have the 31mm and k5 too, what a beautiful combo right?

For a good 50mm, how about the 55mm f1.4 Da* it's pretty sharp, has fairly good bokeh and is also weather resistant. It'll also be around 82.5mm in 35mm equivalent. Perhaps read the reviews here SMC Pentax-DA* 55mm F1.4 SDM Lens Reviews - Pentax Lens Reviews & Pentax Lens Database

Hope that helps

Good to have you here Anthony.
Have you not yet considered the FA 77 ltd?

Hi Anthony,

best bang for the buck in my mind is the Pentax-F 50mm f/1.7 - usually goes for $200 or a little less in the marketplace on here, and produces amazing output. Not the bokeh king that the 1.4s are, but still very nice, and starts sharp and only gets sharper as you stop down...

If you don't mind going manual with an adapter, the older screwmount 50's (1.4, 1.7, 2.0) are all easily come by, cheap, and great lenses. See Pentax Reviews - Pentax Lens Reviews & Pentax Lens Database

Many thanks for all your warm welcome. After a very thorough research here, I have decided to go with all the Ltd, that is with the FA 31, 43 & 77, plus my 2 old A 50f1.4 and K 135f2.5. And what great timing, the new firmware update 1.03 is now available. Cheers.
