Hello from Maryland

Hi everyone. I have been wanting to get a digital SLR and my research brought me here. The site is great. I have decided to get a Pentax but not quite sure which one and what lense or lenses. I'll definitely be asking for advice, I guess over in the beginners forum.

Welcome!

Always glad to see another member from the Free State! Check out the National Capitol Area Pentaxian group--it's fun to get together and share experiences and, occasionally, lenses.

Welcome to the forums!
As far as your camera question goes, I think it sure depends on your budget. If your not familiar with how DSLR camera's work the K-x/K-r would probably be a better starting point. But if you shoot in Manual mode even with a point and shoot you probably could start leaning towards a K20D/K-7/K-5. Just remember the most important part of the finished published shot is the person pressing the shutter button. Even a $10,000 full format camera is useless if someone doesn't learn composition!
best bet is to do a little research on which models your interested in, ask questions you have about them.. and then decide on a lens or two.. and then get out and start shooting like crazy!!
