You should probably post your lens question in the lens forum! Welcome!

Welcome to the forum, that's where the Internet can become a friend, it's just like having the shop on your doorstep.

Where in India are you located. I know of one very good and reputable shop in Chennai, Foto Trade (Wallajah Rd) but I do not know if they sell Pentax. Mr. Jain is a good man. I bought a Nikon from him a few years ago.

What are the import duties nowadays, used to be punitive when I lived there twenty years ago.

To answer my own question, the import duty on photographic lenses is 60%. Add on top some money to "expedite" the process of assessing the import, and it quickly becomes a not so attractive proposition to import a lens into India.

20 years have gone by and nothing much has changed it seems. Partly the reason I left.

Namaste, Savlak! Welcome to the Forum! My niece was in India two summers ago and so was my sister, in Bangalore, at an Ashram. Lots of people from El Salvador go to Putaparti! I will PM you about your lens question and enjoy the camera!

For the benefit of everyone else who does not know Putaparthi, here is a wikipedia article on the reason Putaparthi is famous:

Sathya Sai Baba - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He became famous by producing, ash, jewellry and watches from thin air. A schoolmate was very much a devotee, till one day he stumbled upon a stash of wristwatches there, destined to be "materialized" by Sai Baba. Maybe now he materializes Pentax mount lenses as well.
