Don in Louisville

just found this group and happy to join in. i bought my first pentax spotmatic in 1971 and never went anywhere without it... then added an earlier model with meter that attached to prism. but then i went to another maker for many years. i got my father a k1000 in the late 70s early 80s and he still has it.

i just made the jump to digital with a K100d with 18-55 and 50-200 and having a great time with it.

anyway, plan to post pics soon and see what is going on in general. i have a lot of questions about doing things with my new toy.

see ya

Welcome to the club! My first SLR was also a Spotmatic, back in 1966 or so! I selected Pentax at that time based on the excellent reputation of their lenses.

Hi:

Welcome to Pentax. My first SLR was my mom's Kowa somethingorther, that had the winding lever on the bottom...I got that when she got a Nikon and macro lens for shooting seaweed (a whole nother story). The Kowa broke and the repair failed within a week. Got the cost of repair applied toward a Fujinon screwmount. Sold that pretty soon and got a fantastically advanced (had a lightmeter with indicator needle, and sync'd at 1/250) Canon EF with f1.8 50mm for only...$300 in 1976. Had that and more Canon stuff for 30+ years. Sold it all cheap and got into digital with a Canon P&S, then decided photography was fun enough again to invest in a DSLR.

Welcome Don. I too have the 18-55 and 50-200 and think they are very good "kit" lenses
