No lenses yet!

Hi all from the Milwaukee area.

After a long drought without a DSLR, I'm stepping back into the ring taking advantage of Amazon's price on the K-5.

Several years back I owned canon gear: 5D and the mighty 35/1.4L. While I loved the thing, it was stonking huge and almost embarrassing to take out. Needless to say, the size of the K-5 and Pentax primes has me excited. There was always something about Pentax that was interesting.

Only problem is I haven't come around to ordering a lens yet! Here's to finding some good deals!

Welcome here and welcome to Pentax.
The K-5's a great choice - a refreshing change from the 5D.
Unfortunately, Pentax don't have anything that can compete with the 35/1.4, but Sigma do have a 30/1.4 if you're keen on that focal length. Otherwise, Pentax's FA 31 f/1.8 Limited is a brilliant piece of optical and structural engineering.

I am definitely attracted to the 31, but I'm not sure my wallet is so much. To say nothing of the wife

I'm poking around. I think I'll probably look in the marketplace to see what i can see.

To get something similar as 35mm on full frame (ideal FL for most purposes IMO) you need approximately 23mm lens on cropped sensor. With Pentax you can get small DA21 but the f3,2 speed may be distracting. Or the huge Sigma 24/1,8 but that size may be a problem.
Getting a used FA*24 my be a good compromise, which I made as well.

PS: if you should only get this one lens, maybe Fuji X100 could serve your purpose well?

I'll be looking at multiple lenses.

Right now I've got my eye on the 15, 35 or 40, and 70. And maybe an old 50/1.2 .
