da* 16-50 or Tamron 28-75 F2.8

Greetings Fellow Pentaxians...!!!! I live in Dubai and just recently sold my Kx & K7 to get a K5...sweet..
Can you please give your thoughts which I should get between this 2 lenses... da* 16-50 or Tamron 28-75 F2.8. I like to shoot portraits & likes to take snapshots of my kid while playing around on weekend picnics.
Currently, I have the DA55-300 and Pentax-F 35-70mm F3.5-4.5 .
This is my main lens which is quite good and sharp but however lags in AF when chasing kids. Do you think the above mentioned lenses will do better?

Thanks!

I have tamron 28-75, and happy with sharpness and AF speed.
*16-50 is of course a good gem, but very pricey. I didnt use it, but i think it has no problem with AF.
Take focal length differences and price into acount IMO.
28mm is not wide but 50mm is not tele also.
For outdoors 75mm will be more convenient i think.
If you buy tammy, you can sell 35-70.
btw, for portraits 50-135 is great lens.

Of those two lenses I would choose the 28-75.

I spent a long time deciding between these two lenses. I chose the tamron 28-75 a few months ago for the following reasons:

-too much concern in this forum about sdm failures. I already had the 50-135 and did not want to risk having two sdm lenses. Even thought I have not had problems with sdm.
-for portraits the longer reach of the tamron is more useful.

Having said that despite taking decent pictures I dont like the 'feel' of the tamron. It is loud, AF is not great in low light.

The 16-50 which I rented twice to try out feels good in the hands and is whisper soft. sdm is not really fast but on the k5, it seemed to focus noticeably faster than the tamron [at least in my case]. At the end of the day, the shorter reach and the sdm failure concerns and larger size was what reluctantly drove me away. But everytime I use the tamron and feel its plasticky body and its loud focus sound I grimace. Especially when shooting in low light indoors I still wonder whether I should have bought the 16-50...However taking pictures in good light or outdoors, the tamron does takes nice pictures. So I have kept the tamron.

I have not been able to get a way to try the new sigma 17-50 hsm. But that is another option and seems to have got good ratings. HSM is supposed to be reasonably fast.

The Tamron @75mm, is nice for portraits. and F/2.8 has nice bokeh at 75mm. On the other hand, 28mm is more of a normal lens (ideal actually), but not wide angle. If you're taking pictures of people, the Tamron 28-75mm is almost perfect. For group shots, I never go wider than 35mm (24mm aps-c) for people shots, due to perspective distortion at the edges of the frame anyway.

So, I have the 16-45mm for scenery.
