Hi from Wales

Hi, I'm Alan, or Rich, or Ray (apparantly), from Gwynedd North Wales and have just signed up with my new (to me) Super A and motley bag of lenses.

I guess you could call me a landscape photographer, but I specialise in abandoned mines and quarries so not really sure what that makes me (mad I guess).

You can see for yourself some of my work at alanclogwyn.wordpress.com, as well as having a fair scattered across other sites etc.

Why am I here? hopefully to learn a bit more about my new Pentax (I'm a native Olympus user but am now also using Panasonic m4/3 gear and Pentax film gear).

So.... Hi!

G'day from Australia Alan.....I'm 50% Welsh, my Mum's maiden name was Williams, & she grew up in Rhymney...we used to holiday on the Gower Peninsula. Been in Aus sinse 1958!
I'm into old mines as well, old railway tracks....anything like that....should be a bit of stuff like that around Rhymney?
Be sure to post up some of your images ASAP.
Cheers, Pickles.
NB, almost forgot,..."Super A".....I used to own one....VERY under rated IMHO. You'll have a lot of fun with it.

Thanks for the welcome guys, Pickles - yes theres definitel rail and mine interest down that way, although I can't say as I know the area well, I'm from well up north on the Lleyn Peninsula.

I can't post images here yet, sinc emy first Pentax rolls havent been processed yet, but some shots from my *cough, spit* Olympus and Panasonic gear can be seen on my Flickr, I think they give a pretty good jist of what I'm about photographically.

Warning, you'll need a claibrated monitor as I like my images dark!

Alan....SENSATIONAL....Those images are some of the best of their type I've EVER seen......so much atmosphere.
They're all beautiful, but the "saw tables" one was interesting...how long sinse that "machinery" was used?
Ya gotta check this guy's images out.....brilliant....IMHO of course.
Cheers, Pickles.

I fear you're being too kind there! Atmosphere is indeed what I try and bring to these out of the way places though.

The Quarry where the sawtables are closed in 1969, but production had stopped on Australia level in 1965 I believe. There was even a loco left in the shed there at closure which remained for some time - I belive if you look up the Bala Lake Railway website they have some archive images of 'Alice' being removed from the Quarry in the 70s, which are fascinating in their own right!

Hi Alan.....I did what you suggested....I went to the Bala Lake site, (which is being re-designed), & I have been able to read ALL about the history, & restoration, of "ALICE", over a 40 year period....EXCELLENT.
In Australia, there is an ever increasing interest in Steam Locos, as a consequence of which, many locos which have resided in Parks etc for years, are now being removed & restored to working "life" again.
Regards, Pickles.
