Hello from Newfoundland

Hi,

Gareth from St. John's. I need to make a couple posts so I can PM someone to buy a camera!

Former SLR hobbyist, looking to get into DSLR's and have decided on Pentax as the brand to invest in.

I've been poking around the forum for a couple weeks now while I've been trying to decide on what camera to buy.

I'll talk to you later!

Gareth

Hey thanks. I'm looking forward to getting back to taking some pictures. I really enjoyed my old SLR, right up until I dropped it into the Gulf of Mexico. I've been getting by on digital point and shoots for 5 years now and its really not the same as an SLR. I'm hopeful the DSLR experience is similar.

Hi Gareth, and a big welcome to the forum from someone on the opposite coast. I'm sure that you'll enjoy all of the info and help available here, and you might just find the right camera on the Marketplace. The Pentax Marketplace | Sell Pentax | Photographic Equipment for Sale - PentaxForums.com
When you get the camera, I'd love to see some shots from out there.

I bought a k-x last night. Should be here for iceberg season, so I'll see what I can for you picture wise.

We'll be glad to see your iceberg pictures! Your DSLR should be all your SLR was, and then some.

Can the huge amount of sunlight bouncing off a glacier damage the sensor in any way?

It's never been a problem for me on P&S. If you can take a picture in direct sunlight, I don't think a reflection of a glacier will harm the camera.

Those shots of an iceberg just outside the Narrows look pretty impressive - hope you get one this spring. We grabbed a bergy bit out of the water up near Cupids on one trip, and it kept the beer cold for a week!

They are a reflection of the Sun, and by definition cannot be brighter than the Sun itself, which has been included in countless pictures over the ages.
