Hello all

Hello all.

Just a quick post to introduce myself.

My name is Paul and I am an ex-pat from Hertfordshire, England, now living in the East Bay, California.

I have always been interested in photography, although it has been an interest unexplored until this year. In need of a hobby, I decided now was the time to get into photography, if only to get me out of the house and from out behind a desk.

Despite being surrounded by many friends with Nikons, Canons and even the odd Olympus, I quickly settled on the Pentax K-7 with 18-55mm kit lens. The main factors driving my purchase were the huge range of available glass (new and old), stabilization built into the camera body and full weather sealing.

It already feels like an exclusive club with many of my younger friends asking "What's a Pentax? Is that from Sony?". Ah well, I've never been one to "go with the flow".

Anyway -- I've enjoyed reading the content here at pentaxforums to date and I am looking forward to both giving and receiving opinions and advice in the future.

Cheers; Paul.

Hi, and welcome to the forum, Paul. You can usually find some good deals on older lenses in the Marketplace The Pentax Marketplace | Sell Pentax | Photographic Equipment for Sale - PentaxForums.com
I'd recommend an authentic Pentax adapter if you get some of the old screwmounts.

Welcome, Paul.
You've hit on the major reasons why Pentax offers some of the best value in photographic equipment today. I've shot Pentax personally for more than 34 years, and the combination of ease of use and quality is hard to beat. I've had to work with company owned Sony, Nikon and Canon digital cameras, and my Pentax K100D is handier and much easier to use. And every one of my oldest manual lenses fit my digital body. The built in shake reduction is amazing, so look forward to lots of fun with your Pentax.
