G Day from SA

I recently found this site. I got a K100DSuper in 2007 so I could take control of my pictures again, like I could with the old MX. I have mixed feelings about the DSLR. The body is twice the size of the MX - bad, I loved the smallness of the MX. But the new one offers the advantage of automatic for rushed situations - although I am growing to prefer manual operation. I alsolike the design philosophy of using commonly available battery types (AA NiMH) so I can travel with a bundle of battery sets which support my camera and flash and shaver and and and ... (I travel a lot for work.) I would always be caught with flat batteries if I needed some special kind such as Lithium. I like the compatibility with all kinds of old stuff - my 30 year old flash, and screw mount lenses - I was given a Rubinar 1000, and recently bought a Super Takumar 55/2 which I hope will arrive in the next couple of days. The user interface is not as good as the MX - there are many controlable variables, but they are not easily seen by a glance at the machine - like the MX - and so it has the frustration I find with the interface of many modern electronic devices which have multifunction buttons. Overall, I like the new one, and would replace it with a better model if that time comes. Will it be as tought as the MX (which still works - and in my experience was only surpassed by my grandfather's 1954 Zeiss-Ikon Contessa - which he used till at least 2000 - with many pieces broken off - and the first camera I ever used. I like the idea of putting shake reduction in the body, not the lense - so I get SR with the legacy lenses - unlke the other brands.
