Old-school film shooter/digital noob

Greetings from Washtenaw Co., MI. I've been shooting candids, vacation scenery, family events, and portraits off and on for 30+ years with a K1000; with a handful of photos published in college organs, and one portrait of a military science department chairperson hung on a wall at Eastern Michigan University.

Now I'm bringing my old-school manual camera skills to digital photography. In a week, hopefully less, I should have my used K100D (from Adorama, NYC). It's not perfect, with a busted autofocus; but hopefully that won't matter, since I'm using all my manual lenses from my K1000 (and puh-LEASE don't tell me I'm mistaken on that count!!)

You'll love it!

I too began with the k1000 (still have two bodies, and they still work!) And I got my k100D a couple years ago and yes, the lenses I could use with the 1000s work with the 100, one of the biggest reasons I stuck with Pentax.
You'll find the transition almost seamless, just a few odd things that are easily figured out with the instruction manual. I wouldn't worry about the AF not working; I don't use mine a lot anyway, even with the kit lens that came with the camera.
Happy shooting!

Welcome to the group and may your conversion go more smoothly than mine. I still feel like a young frog some days.

Thanks for the warm welcome. My ancient K1000 has never seen a repair shop, and is still clicking away.

I am SO looking forward to the K100D's scheduled arrival on 28 June.
