New to the forum, and what a nice forum it is.
Started with my first Pentax camera in 1978 - saved my summer job $$$ and got a new MX with the 40mm pancake lens & winder, my bro got an ME with the 50/1.7. We set up our own darkroom in the basement for b/w and some cibachrome (what's that you ask...), and also loaded tri-x from bulk 100 foot rolls. All good clean fun.
Fast fwd to the DSLR age - when they became affordable, there was no Pentax DSLR(!) - so I went with a Canon EOS 300D and have used that lo these many years, 6MP being fine for me. Recently my wife was having some frustrations with her camera, and so I just gave her my Canon, since I knew she could work it right.
(Sold my MX kit - kinda wished I hadn't but too late Got back what I paid for it tho!)
Not wanting to spend a lot on a new camera, searched Ebay and got an *ist DS with the 18-55DA kit lens, TTL zoom flash, remote, bag etc for $230 with 120 shutter activations (really could pass for new). Size wise it reminds me of the MX - much handier than the Canon. May not be the 'latest and greatest' but it will be fine for me. Picked up a nice 28mm F/2.8 SMC M the other day which is working nicely in manual mode (and construction is SO much nicer than modern plastic lenses). Also grabbed a 'Bell and Howell' branded Samyang 8mm fisheye ($249) that is manual focus, but the Pentax version does have an 'A' aperture setting so will work in AV mode - always wanted a fisheye, never could justify the high $$$.
Going back to the UK to visit family in 3 weeks, DS will make a nice compact travel camera AND my mom still has her ME and some M and A lenses in a box, which I am going to plunder (not used in years!).
